New Facility for Hamil Funeral Home

Hamil Funeral Home is a newly constructed facility located in Abilene, Texas, which opened in May 2005. The owners, Robert and Karla Hamil, instructed J. Stuart Todd, Inc. to design a new facility as they returned to the funeral industry after a three-year hiatus. The result is a beautiful 8,867 square foot building with future growth in mind.

The exterior of Hamil Funeral Home is a combination of brick and Austin stone, giving a comfortable, residential look to the facility. In front of the entry to Hamil Funeral Home is a large 6' diameter and 7' tall fountain, adding richness to the landscaping and the adjacent passenger drop off. The entryway leads to an octagonal two-story lobby. As a focal point for the lobby, a fireplace extending from floor to ceiling creates a welcoming environment for the funeral home. Clerestory windows giving extra natural light add warmth to the atmosphere of the funeral home.

Seating over 175, the chapel has a cathedral ceiling and a stained glass window in the chancel. The chapel also has family seating divided by a moveable wall partition. An outside entrance to the chapel gives guests easy access to the facility, and helps with traffic flow during multiple services. Flower walls are included in the chapel and visitation rooms to give extra floor space to the areas. The two visitation rooms in Hamil Funeral Home are divided by a double pocket door, which can be moved to create a larger space when needed. There is also a public coffee lounge complete with a large bay window. JST Interiors enhanced the beautiful architecture of this new funeral home with functional interior design that compliments the atmosphere of the building.
