Tulocay Funeral Home Interiors

Tulocay Interiors 09

The Tulocay Funeral Home is built in the historic Tulocay Cemetery that has served the Napa Valley area of California for more than 150 years.  The Cemetery Board of Directors wanted the building to have an architectural style that was reminiscent of a winery and also blended with the very natural site that had been reserved for the funeral home.

The exterior of the project is primarily native stone laid in an ashlar pattern with stucco above the stone.  The exterior beams, corbels, brackets and columns are stained cedar.  The tower at the chapel entrance and the semi-circular visitation area are architectural elements found in local winery architecture.  The dramatic cedar arches at the main entrance pay homage to some of the existing cemetery structures.

The interior of the facility is designed to be comfortable and relaxed with an emphasis on the natural beauty of the cemetery.  The entrance lobby has a tile floor and a native stone fireplace that is the essence of the Napa reputation for comfort and relaxed elegance.  The building has cemetery and funeral home offices, a semicircular visitation lounge with views of the cemetery, two visitation rooms and a chapel that will seat 160.  The facility also has a private reception area that seats approximately 75 and opens onto a terrace with bucolic views of the natural landscape that the cemetery is known for.  To meet needs of the business there is a preparation/dressing room suite with a two vehicle receiving garage adjacent.
